RESIDENTIAL CARE SERVICES

This sub-class includes the provision of nursing care as an important element combined with residential care and/or supervisory or other types of care as required by the residents. Units in this sub-class are primarily engaged in: - homes for the elderly with nursing care - convalescent homes - rest homes with nursing care - nursing care facilities - nursing homes - hospices - palliative care hospices

This sub-class includes: - the provision of residential and/or personal care services for persons with some limits on ability for self-care, but where medical treatment or education are not important elements - the care typically includes room, board, supervision, counselling (in some cases) and/or assistance in daily living, such as housekeeping services - the activities may be carried out by public or private organisations Units in this sub-class are primarily engaged in: - assisted-living facilities - homes for the elderly with minimal nursing care - rest homes without nursing care

This sub-class includes: - the provision of residential and/or personal care services for children to ensure the needs of the children are met when they cannot live with their own family - these services include providing a place for children to develop and/or grow, food, shelter and/or space for play and/or leisure - the activities may be carried out by public or private organisations Units in this sub-class are primarily engaged in: - orphanages - children's boarding homes and hostels

This sub-class includes other residential care services not elsewhere classified. Residential care services refer to services residential and/or personal care services for persons with some limits on ability for self-care and/or those who are unable to live with their family or independently, but where medical treatment or education are not important elements. The care typically includes room, board, supervision, and/or assistance in daily living, such as housekeeping services and/or may include rehabilitation programmes, professional services (e.g., social work, therapist, psychology, counselling). The activities may be carried out by public or private organisations. Examples: - halfway houses for substance abusers - residential care services for persons with disabilities (physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, sensory disabilities, etc.) and/or persons with mental health issues - crisis shelters for victims/survivors of domestic violence - transitional shelters for the homeless - welfare homes for destitute persons
