Frequently asked questions

Why was my SSIC code automatically changed from 85501 to 85601?
Singapore's national industrial classification was updated from SSIC 2020 to SSIC 2025, effective 9 May 2026. ACRA's BizFile+ system automatically mapped every existing entity to its closest SSIC 2025 equivalent using the official SingStat correspondence table. The code SSIC 85501 (Training courses for construction, real estate, security and investigation services, cleaning, landscaping, waste management and pest management) was reclassified to SSIC 85601 (Student recruitment agencies) under that mapping.
Do I need to take any action?
Usually no. If your business activity is unchanged, the new code accurately reflects it under SSIC 2025 and no manual update is needed. You should only update if (a) the auto-mapped code doesn't match what you actually do, (b) your activity has changed independently, or (c) you claim a sector-specific licence or grant tied to the old code.
How many Singapore companies were affected by this specific recode?
Based on the change log we've maintained since the 9 May 2026 cutover, 721 companies have been reclassified from SSIC 85501 to SSIC 85601. Of those, 399 had it as their primary SSIC code and 322 as a secondary code.
What's the difference between SSIC 85501 and SSIC 85601?
SSIC 85501 was titled "Training courses for construction, real estate, security and investigation services, cleaning, landscaping, waste management and pest management". Under SSIC 2025, the equivalent activity sits at SSIC 85601 ("Student recruitment agencies"). The two cover the same underlying activity per SingStat's official correspondence table; the SSIC 2025 title and number reflect the updated classification.
